I Just Wanted to Thank You for...

… not writing what everybody else writes.

99% of thank you notes begin with “I just wanted to thank you for…” It’s science. Actually, it’s just our estimation, but at KinderInk, we are committed to get that number to zero.

Any thank you note is better than no thank you note, but a well-written thank you note can help convey how you truly feel. Expressing that is an art. Here are four ways to start a thank you note without saying “I just wanted to thank you for…”

1. Tell the giver something you appreciate about them.

Example: “I have always admired your thoughtfulness.”

2. Share an insight with the giver about your special day or your experience together.

Example: “Our wedding day was everything we dreamed of, and it wouldn’t have been the same without you moonwalking across the dance floor.”

3. Describe the gift and let the giver know why you love it.

Example: “The whisk you gave me is my favorite. I have it hanging in the kitchen in case John ever misbehaves.”

4. Describe how you felt when you received the gift.

Example: “I was delighted to open the salt shaker. Believe it or not, I’ve never had one!”

This is your chance for your personality to shine. And, remember, if a thank you note feels sincere, it doesn’t have to be long. We just hope that you don’t begin it with “I just wanted to thank you for…”
